The State of Connecticut adopted a Tax Deferral Program for eligible taxpayers who have been affected by COVID-19. It applies to real estate, motor vehicle and personal property taxes that will become due July 1, 2020. For eligible taxpayers in the program, the tax deadline to pay without interest will be deferred until ninety days after the due date of July 1. The last day to pay will be October 1, 2020 for those taxpayers accepted in the Deferral Program.
To qualify, a household, since March 10, 2020, has to have suffered a reduction in income of at least 20% due to COVID-19, been furloughed without pay, had hours significantly reduced or is unemployed.
For Businesses and Non-Profits, revenue is expected to decrease by 30% April through June 2020 compared to the same three months of 2019.
Applications must be submitted by July 1, 2020 with proof of residency and proof of ownership for businesses.
